Day 4, 12. July
THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE FESTIVAL- CONCERT IN THE MIDDLE OF NATURE
We heard about the special act of Saturday from two people we met in Bodø. The concert in the rocks on the island next to Traena, Sanna‘s Island. In fact it is how we imagined the Træna festival concerts: in the middle of nature scenery.
So we walk down to the port in the morning to get a boat to this island where these impressing mountains sit. There is quite abit of a queue but we are lucky and get on a boat very quickly and ride along the little coast to Sanna. There is only a small village with few houses and a small cementery. We walk up the hill and get to a tunnel entrance. It is all dark as we enter and kind of scary. There are scented candles put oeach side to show and lead the people the way through the dark tunnel. It is strange to be in the darkness after those eternally bright days. Then we suddenly hear a pulsive beat from far. After keep on walking up the steap dark way we reach the spot where a DJ puts up electronic music andpeople dancing to his tunes. It is a very special, physical feeling, as the beats and waves enter directly into the body. As we reach the exit of the tunnel, we enjoy catching the sunlight again. And we are totally overwhelmed by the stunning view while we get welcomed with a glass of champagne by the Træna festival crew.
After a little rest we hike up on top of the mountain. We look down to so many islands surrounding Træna. We chill a bit in the green grass and enjoy the sun. Then we head down towards the spot where the concert takes place. It is a steap and long path down. After going up a bit further we finally get to the cave of Sanna. It is a gigantic hole. Many people have arrived to see the concert. As the the musicians get on the rocky stage, people immediately sit down and applaud for a long time. The music is very tender and beautiful. Bjella, a Norwegian band, plays with several instruments their deepsinking folk songs. With vocals, piano, contrabass, cittern, base, accordion, harp they create very versatile and touching melodies. It is a special moment where everybody seams to feel united, in peace, fulfilled with love and happiness. After a while they get even supported by a chorus of about twenty wikingers singing and humming. The acoustics in this huge cave is simply phenomenal and the whole experience of walking through, up and down this mountain to finally enjoy this concert together is unforgettable.
Afer the concert we walk down to the port to get the boat back. As we notice it would have been a good thing to help carring down music equipment to enter the boat without queuing. Eventhough the boats are going constantly back and forth, it takes over 2 hours to bring back all the people. But waiting is part of the whole experience as well as going up there by foot. And we realize that by waiting, time gets its meaning :)
