Day 5 and 6, 13/14. july
GETTING READY FOR LITTLE BIKETOUR THROUGH HELGELAND
After our wonderful time in Traena we are now very excited to start our little road trip in Helgeland. At the port we face the second time the situation of a „sorry guys the boat is full, you have to spend the night here“ but luck is on our side as we can hop o a private boat bringing us to Onoy from where we take the ferry to Sandnessjoen which is a very beautiful boat ride. When you travel in northland with backpacks and public transportations you do need alot of time. You always have time between connecting ferries and the schedule can change each day. So you better prepare your trips carefully. But travelling with boats is a true experience and calms your mind alot, as it is a very smooth, slow and constant moving.
The hotel Sandnessjoen has very friendly staff and welcomes us warmly. After the very dramatic world-cup final which we see in a local pub, we are happy to hopp into a big, warm bed after 3 nights of camping. The next morning we get spoilt with a very rich, northern breakfast, then we finally pick up our bikes and prepare ourselves to be on the road on 2 wheels.
While cycling towards solvik, we breath in the fresh, salty air and smell the flavours of the countryside. It almost feels like swiss home, but there is that special combination green and flower fields, the silhouette of the seven sister mountain chain and the view into the sea with its wide horizon. All this makes it truely unique and we appreciate that we finally have the time to ride through these chaning landscapes.
On the ferry we start to compare the islands of Heroy and Donna and agree pretty soon that Heroy is perfect for some easy bike-rides, while Donna is offering a nice trekk on top of its 860 meter high mountain Donnamannen.
During our ride towards northern heroy, we enjoy the very relaxed atmorsphere of the little village. Perfect to ease our mind from work and busy everyday-life. The owner of our next stay at Elfis is awaiting us already on the street and shows us with pride our home for the next 3 days: a little, white, wooden house placed ona peer right on the water. Time seems to stand still here and sorrows just dessolve into the sea. We immediately feel home and fade out the day infront of a pastel-coloured sky, observing sailing seagals and jumping fishes.
