Catherine Meuter: Træna and Helgeland summer 2014

Two girls from Switzerland visited the music festival Trænafestivalen in the summer of 2014. Wanting to explore the the area they ended up cycling from Sandnessjøen to the island Herøy and hiking the 858 meter high mountain Dønnmannen. This is there travel report from 5 days of adventure along the scenic road Kystriksveien.

Day 8/9, 16/17 july

RAINY BUT HAPPY ENDING OF OUR NORTHLAND TRIP

The whole night it is raining very strong and Wednesday morning it still does. We are happy to spend a relaxing day in our cosy little lodge. We watch the water pearling down from the windows; norway is still beautiful, even when it rains. We start the day with a nice breakfast and keep reading our books. Our wet clothes from yesterday are only slowly getting dry. Suddenly we hear some people outside and so we observe what happens. A norwegian family is going swimming. We realize that Norwegians even enjoy their activities like fishing, swimming, jogging...  when it‘s pouring down. The rain is simply part of everyday life.

After a chilled morning we now have to pack and leave our little oase. We would love to stay longer at Elfis, it is such an amazing place. But unfortunately there is no time. So we ride our bikes to the harbour and get the ferry back to the mainland. In the evening we are back in the Hotel Sandnessjøen, where we enjoy the nice dinner and a glas of wine.

Our last day in the north is a day of travel again. We take the express boat from Sandnessjøen to Bodø which takes six hours. In Bodø we have some time to spend before taking the flight back to Oslo. So we decide to go to Bodø Spekrum, which is appointed as one of the most impressive spa and wellness centres in Norway. It offers six different saunas, two jacuzzis, one indoor and one outside, and tropical rain forest showers.

Very relaxed we get to the airport and take our plain back southwards. We land at 9pm in Oslo, where it is arleady much darker than up in the North. We are tired but happy about our unique trip. It was one of the most amazing and special trip we have ever done. Unforgettable! Tusen takk til Norge!
